Sea Kayaking Tours : Kayak Rentals
Sea kayaking is an exciting popular sport here within the islands. Sea Quest has a fleet of both single and double kayaks available. Our boathouse is situated on the waterfront with access to both beach and dock entries. Tours are available from just a few hours to personalized multi day tours. Experienced guides are here in the summer months to assist with guests who have little or no experience. Paddlers who are proficient in their own self-rescue techniques can rent single kayaks on their own. We abide be the industry safety standards of a maximum of 5 paddlers per guide ratio. All our boats rentals are required by law to have safety equipment that is enforced by RCMP, Transport Canada and Ships Safety and are supplied for you. Kayak rentals are available year round by reservation.
Local islands do have camping areas set out for back country paddlers. There may be a small fee for some sites, as they will lie within the Gulf Island National Park. Water is an issue as there is very little especially in the summer months. Paddlers, while some islands may have limited water, take local knowledge…bring your own supply. Tap water is available on our site. Garbage is on a take in take out basis, minimum impact on a fragile ecosystem is essential.

In the winter months kayaks are available by pre-arranged reservation only. By mid May through mid September we can only suggest paddlers plan ahead. While you may walk in and find availability holiday weekends, July and August are the most popular times of the year for this sport. Reservations may be received by phone or e mail 7:00 am to 11:00 pm PST and held with a credit card number and telephone number. Cancellations for short-term rentals (up to 1 day) may be received prior to 6:00 pm the night prior or the full rental charge will apply. For longer term rentals, or multiple/group rentals, if cancellation is not received 3 days or 72 hours ahead ½ of the rental will be charged. Late charges; if your kayak is returned late and the following rental of that boat is lost or limited you will be charged the full rental loss. Please, plan ahead so all paddlers may enjoy our islands. We work hard to make every ones trip the most enjoyable possible, be considerate of others. All rentals will be cancelled if high wind/unsafe conditions prevail.
Each May through August in ocean lessons are available. The most asked for is the self-rescue course. Course covers multi situation specific self-rescue techniques, varying beach and dock boat entry/exits, basic tide/current/wave planning and kayak packing. Participants are encouraged to wear normal paddling clothing and to bring a change of cloths. Experiencing real situations is important for your safety. Small groups of 2 or 3 maximum, duration 4 hours. Cost $85.00 min 2 persons. Proficiency letter issued.
